COVID-19 Safety Precautions

1. What safety precautions do you have in place during COVID-19?

2. What is your refund policy for food tours?

You can change the date of your tour any time. You can cancel your tour and receive a full refund up to 48 hours before your tour date. (ex. If your tour is on Friday at 11:30 am, you would need to cancel by Wednesday at 11:30 am.) With less than 48 hours notice we can definitely arrange a date change. There are no credits for partial attendance or late arrivals. Tours run in all weather. Midland Food Tours reserves the right to cancel, postpone or reschedule a tour for safety or personal reasons. In this case, a full refund will be issued to the credit card used to make the purchase.

3. Do I have to purchase tickets in advance?

All tickets must be purchased in advance. You can book on our website with a credit card OR you can book over the phone and pay by credit card or e-transfer. Contact us to arrange a phone reservation. We let our restaurant partners know our tour guest numbers ahead of time so unfortunately walk-up traffic the day of the tour cannot be accepted.

4. Can I pay cash?

Unfortunately not, but you can pay by e-transfer. Email us at: hello@midlandfoodtours.ca or contact us to arrange a time to book over the phone and pay by e-transfer or credit card. Tickets can also be purchased on our website with a major credit card.

5. Do I have to buy a ticket if I’m not eating?

All guests need to buy a ticket whether they plan to take part in the food tastings or not. For questions about children attending the tour, please see question 17.

6. If a food tour is sold out, can I get on a waiting list?

Unfortunately we do not provide a waiting list. If you do not see availability please contact us and we’d be happy to try and work out an alternate date for you.

7. Are Gift Cards available?

Gift Cards are not available. However, if you would like to gift a food tour, you can purchase a ticket for a specific tour and date, and the recipient can contact us if they want to change the date and/or the tour.

8. What is a Midland Food Tour?

A Midland Food Tour is an enjoyable way to experience local Georgian Bay life through delicious food, drink and story. On tour participants sample food at unique local restaurants (no chains), and learn the backstories of the owners and their establishments. Stories are shared about the area’s rich history and culture, providing food tour guests with a unique and insightful local experience.

9. Where is Midland, Ontario?

The town of Midland is located on southeast Georgian Bay in Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada. Midland is 90 minutes north of Toronto and 40 minutes north of Barrie.

10. How much food is served on the food tour?

Our Midland Food Tours serve enough food for most participants to replace one meal. Most guests end the food tour feeling comfortably full.

11. What if I have dietary restrictions or allergies?

Please be sure and let us know if you (or anyone in your group) has a dietary restriction when you purchase your tickets. The tours are not gluten/wheat free. Tastings can be vegetarian but unfortunately not vegan or nut free.

12. Are there vegetarian options?

All tours offer alternative tasting options for vegetarians. Please let us know if you or someone in your party is a vegetarian when you purchase your tickets.

13. Are any drinks served on the tour?

All tours include some type of beverage. Bottled water is not provided. We encourage you to bring your own reusable water bottle.

14. How much walking is involved? Is it a fast-paced tour?

Our walking food tours generally last between 2.5 to 3 hours and participants can expect to be standing or walking for a majority of the time. We walk at a moderate pace and there will be opportunities to sit. Our driving food tours involve much less walking. A guest would not even need to get out of their vehicle as long as they were traveling with another guest who could go into the restaurants to pick up the food.

15. Is the tour wheelchair accessible?

Many but not all of the stops on our tours are wheelchair accessible.

16. Can I shop during the tour?

You will have lots of time to shop during our driving food tours. There is some time to shop during our walking food tours as these tours have a tighter time schedule. We hope that you’ll revisit your favourite locations once the tour is done.

17. Can children come on the tour?

Children can definitely come on the tour. If you are bringing a child 6 or younger who will not be participating in the tastings, you do not need to purchase a ticket for them.

18. Would the tours be worthwhile for locals?

Absolutely! Many of our guests are from the local Georgian Bay area. Our tours are designed to provide insight and taste experiences that will be enlightening to both locals and visitors.

19. Does the tour guide accept gratuities?

Gratuities are greatly appreciated but never expected.

20. Do we tip at the restaurants?

Tips for the food and drink provided during the food tour are included in your ticket price. If you choose to buy additional drinks or food, you should add a tip. Standard industry practice in Canada is 15-20%.

21. Are tours only offered in English?

At this time tours are only offered in English. Please contact us if you would like to make arrangements for your own interpreter to join the tour.

22. Will tours still run in bad weather?

Our tours run in all sorts of weather. On rare occasions like lightning or snow storms, we will reschedule an event for safety reasons.

23. Are bathrooms available during the tour?

Bathrooms are available during the tour at selected food-tasting locations.

24. Are cameras allowed on the tour?

Yes, cameras and filming are encouraged during the tour. We’d love it if you would share some of your experience on our social media channels. You can find us on Facebook and Instagram @midlandfoodtours.

25. Is there parking near the tour meeting point?

There is plenty of public parking located near the meeting point of our walking food tours. For our driving food tours each establishment has its own parking or has public parking close by. Specific details pertaining to parking location, pricing, and hours are included in the directions emailed after purchasing food tour ticket(s).

26. Do we start and finish the tour in the same place?

Not necessarily. At the end of the tour we will ensure that you know where you are headed.

27. Do you offer pet friendly tours?

While we love meeting dogs, only service dogs are allowed on our Midland Guided Walking Food Tour or in any of the restaurants. If your dog loves a good road trip and you are willing to get your tastings for take out, then our self-guided Georgian Bay Driving Food Tour would work.

28. Can I book a tour for a larger group? Or a private or corporate group tour?

Absolutely! Please contact us to discuss booking a tour for a group larger than our maximum size, a private tour, or a corporate group tour.
